Hello everyone,
I'm new to the tribe and just wanted to say hello to all the beagle lovers out there...
I've always wanted a beagle ever since I was a child and now life with Monty is both good and challenging. I picked up Monty in Point Magoo Air Force base last month. He is now 10 weeks old and loves shoe laces, furniture and pretty much anything that he can get his paws on.
Does anyone here have any advice for a new beagle dad? (i.e. obedience, nutrition, etc.) Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New Beagle Man
Fri, September 9, 2005 - 6:20 AMWelcome to you and Monty!
My only advise is: keep him entertained. A bored beagle finds things to entertain himself quite handily... like shoelaces, furniture, etc. lol Mine ate her way in one and out the other side of my brand new sofa when she was a pup. Thankfully, 13 years later, her favorite thing now is naps!
Oh... and P.S... please get him neutered if you don't plan to breed. It's the kindest/smartest thing you can do.
Take care and enjoy!

Re: New Beagle Man
Fri, September 9, 2005 - 9:16 AMMy beagle Matilda chewed everything too. Actually....most of the stuff belonged to my mum. EEK! She actually chewed our wallpaper too. She is 10 now and relatively calm. Still has the puppy look occasionally.
Be careful with your food. My girl eats every meal like it was the last supper and she will sneak whatever she can. It is her favorite pasttime.
They can be tough to housebreak. It has more to do with the fact that Beagles are incredibly stubborn. One more thing, they do tend to be a wee bit dramatic too.
She has been a wonderful companion though. I couldn't have asked for a better pet. She is with me everywhere I go and sleeps with me every night. Quite the bed hog!
